Extractions & Bone Grafts
We do everything we can to save a natural tooth. Sometimes, though, a tooth is too damaged, infected, or crowded to keep, and removing it is the healthiest choice. We take the time to explain why, walk you through the procedure, and make sure you are comfortable throughout.
When a tooth is removed, the bone that held it begins to shrink. A bone graft placed at the time of the extraction helps keep that space intact. This maintains the shape of your jaw and gives you a solid foundation if you decide to replace the tooth with an implant.
To help your body heal, we can use PRF (platelet-rich fibrin). It is made from a small sample of your own blood, drawn in the office just before your procedure. We spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the healing proteins and platelets, then place it in the extraction site. Because it comes from you, it is a natural way to support faster, better healing.
Is this right for you?
- A tooth is badly decayed, fractured, or infected and cannot be repaired.
- You plan to replace a tooth with an implant and want to preserve the bone.
- You have lost bone in an area where you need an implant.
What to expect
1. Evaluation
We examine the tooth, take images, and discuss whether it can be saved and what your options are.
2. Extraction
With the area fully numbed, we remove the tooth as gently as we can.
3. PRF, if recommended
We draw a small blood sample, spin it to make PRF, and place it in the site to help the area heal.
4. Bone graft, if needed
We place grafting material in the socket and protect it so your own bone can grow in.
5. Aftercare
We give you clear instructions for the first few days and schedule a follow-up to check how you are healing.

Common questions
- Do I need a bone graft every time?
- No. We recommend one when it will help you, most often when you plan to get an implant later.
- What is PRF, and do I need it?
- PRF is a concentrate of healing factors from your own blood. It is not required for every extraction, but it can support healing, especially with grafts or implants. We will tell you if we think it would help you.
- What is recovery like?
- Most people have some soreness and swelling for a few days. We will tell you what to expect and how to keep yourself comfortable.
- Will I need to see an oral surgeon?
- In most cases, no. We handle these procedures here in our office.
