Sedation
Light oral to general anesthesia
Fear of the dentist is common, and it keeps many people from getting care they need. Others have a strong gag reflex, sensitive teeth, or a long procedure ahead. Sedation makes all of these easier. You stay comfortable and relaxed, and you can get treatment done that you might otherwise put off.
We offer a range of options, so the level of sedation can match your needs. It can be as light as an oral medication that takes the edge off, or as deep as general anesthesia, where you are fully asleep for the procedure. We will talk with you about your health, your concerns, and the treatment you are having, and recommend what makes sense.
Is this right for you?
- Dental visits make you anxious or nervous.
- You have had a bad experience in the past and have avoided care since.
- You are having a longer or more involved procedure, such as implants or All-on-4.
- You have trouble getting numb, a strong gag reflex, or difficulty sitting still for long.

Common questions
- Will I be asleep?
- It depends on the type you choose. With light oral sedation you are relaxed but usually awake. With general anesthesia you are fully asleep.
- Do I need someone to drive me home?
- Yes, in most cases. Sedation can leave you drowsy, so plan to have a friend or family member take you home and stay with you.
- Is sedation safe?
- It is very well established, and we screen every patient beforehand and monitor you during treatment. We will review any risks that apply to you at your consultation.
